Cricket
Cricket is perhaps the British colonial period's legacy that the typical Sri Lankan values the most. Cricket is unquestionably king in Sri Lanka, just as it is in India and Pakistan. Kids play it wherever there is a patch of open ground, making improvised balls, bats, and wickets out of discarded sticks and rolled-up pieces of cloth, while during international matches, the entire nation practically comes to a standstill as excited crowds swarm around every radio or television set that is available.
Surfing
There are several fantastic surfing sites in Sri Lanka since many of the waves that pound the coastline have come all the way from Antarctica. The standout location is Arugam Bay on the east coast, the only location in Sri Lanka having a reputation outside of the country among surfers. The town of Midigama on the south coast, neighboring Medawatta (on the outskirts of Matara), and Hikkaduwa are among the top surfing locations. All of these locations provide the option to rent boards. A number of locations in Arugam Bay and Hikkaduwa organize surfing excursions along the coast, occasionally combining them with trips to other sights. Arugam Bay's surfing season lasts from April to October, whereas Midigama and Hikkaduwa's season lasts from November to April.
Cycling
Cycling in Sri Lanka can be a true delight as long as you stay off the dangerous main highways. The island's small size and geographical variety make it ideal for touring, especially the hill country with its cooler weather, sparse traffic, and thrilling switchback roads. The main caution is safety.
As a cyclist, you are extremely vulnerable because bus and truck drivers think of cyclists as a waste of valuable tarmac and people who shouldn't really be on the road at all. Be ready to move out of the way quickly. In fact, it's usually safest to ride along the dirt shoulder rather than on the tarmac.
Beach Volleyball
Beach volleyball in the Indian Ocean for a week, followed by island exploration, surfing, or simply resting. Your stay will be filled with wonderful people, delectable food, refreshing cocktails, and the most magnificent sunsets on Sri Lanka's sandy beach.
